I began building cardboard models, loosely guided by my sketches. Once I realized I liked the basic concept, I transferred the idea to wood. I stayed close to the idea of creating a body from two interlocking boards.

I also added four square rods in the corners of the boards, to make room for a future grinding mechanism and to emphasize the combination of the woods.

This resulted in a form whose proportions and interplay I liked very much, and which stood out from the appearance of conventional pepper mills.
